Prevent Child Abuse America
Since 1984, Kappa Delta collegiate and alumnae chapters have held Shamrock events — local fundraisers that vary from pancake breakfasts and 5K runs to silent auctions and golf tournaments — to support the prevention of child abuse. Shamrock events, staged by thousands of Kappa Delta women in hundreds of communities nationwide, are held throughout the year and have earned local and national media attention.
Every year, KD collegiate and alumnae chapters raise more than $2 million to benefit child abuse prevention efforts. A full 80 percent of the money raised stays in the community and is donated to local child-abuse prevention agencies; the remaining 20 percent goes to the Kappa Delta Foundation to support Prevent Child Abuse America’s national office for its national programs. PCAA was founded by a Kappa Delta, the late Donna Stone, Lambda-Northwestern, which makes the cause that much more relevant to the sorority.
My name is Molly Addison and I am honored to serve as Kappa Delta’s Vice President Community Service this year. Kappa Delta supports four national philanthropies: Prevent Child Abuse America, Girl Scouts of the USA, Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, and Orthopedic Research Awards.
Every year the Sigma Lambda chapter of Kappa Delta hosts its annual Shamrock 5k Run. Our run raises money for the prevention of child abuse both locally and nationally. 20% of our proceeds go directly to the Kappa Delta Foundation to support Prevent Child Abuse America. PCAA was founded by Kappa Delta and is a national organization that promotes services that improve child well being and develop programs that help to prevent all types of abuse and neglect. The remaining 80% is used to make an impact within our community here in Auburn, Alabama. Special Deliveries of Lee County works to strengthen families and prevent child abuse by providing counseling, parent education programs, and family support services for expecting mothers. We believe that every child deserves a wonderful childhood, and it is our privilege to see our hard work contribute to making this happen.
This year we raised $34,639.08!! This money was raised through benefit nights held at local restaurants, runner registrations, and donations. Every year we think of fun and different ways to raise money and get our campus and community involved in our philanthropy. This year we exceeded our goal and raised the most money our event has ever made. We hope you will join us next year as we look to exceed our goal once again and continue to impact the lives of children everywhere. We are so passionate about our philanthropies here in KD, and we hope this organization is something that touches your heart as much as it does ours. Join us in making 2018 the best yet!
